Letter from the Editors-in-Chief
Isabelle Savoie & Bill Xu, Editors-in-Chief
Dear Readers,
We are so thrilled to kick off our editorial process for the University of Toronto Faculty of Law Review, Volume 81! As the school year gets underway, we look forward to receiving article submissions from brilliant law students and recent graduates from across Canada and beyond. We are also looking forward to welcoming new members of the U of T Law community to our editorial staff in the coming weeks. We are hopeful that this year will bring more opportunities for in-person connections and community-building both within and outside the Law Review community.
We are also excited to be implementing three key strategic changes to the Law Review this year. First, we have made the decision to once again accept submissions of articles written in French. As Canada’s preeminent law journal for student-written scholarship, we feel it is important to include submissions from students in French-language legal degrees and from those for whom French is a first language. Second, we are creating a dedicated Publications Team, which will be responsible for ensuring the technical and grammatical aspects of each published article is polished to the high standard that has come to be expected of the Law Review. We believe this will streamline the editorial process and allow us to consider more pieces for publication. Third, we are aiming to expand the reach and content of our blog, Forum Conveniens (which you are reading right now!). We will be encouraging pitch submissions for shorter case comments, notes and legal news updates from all Canadian law students regardless of year or school. We will be releasing details about this on our website later this year.
For U of T Law students who are considering applying for Associate Editor and Associate Publications Editor roles, we cannot overstate the positive influence that the Law Review has had on our law school experiences. From engaging with critical scholarship written by our peers on a wide range of topics, to building community on campus, to improving our legal research skills, the Law Review has only enriched our time at U of T Law. We will be at Clubs Fair on September 8th and will be hosting an information session before applications are due, but please do not hesitate to reach out to editorsinchief.lawreview@utoronto.ca with any questions you may have or just to chat.
With anticipation for the year ahead,
Isabelle Savoie and Bill Xu
